Your film Eklavya releases today. Reportedly you did it only for the experience of working with Amitabh Bachchan?
That too. Even though I knew I had only a couple of scenes with him, it was an honour to be in the same frame as a man who8217;s an institution by himself.
He8217;s equally charmed by you, confiding that while watching Parineeta he had eyes only for you.
What can I say? He8217;s being extremely kind. I8217;m a little embarrassed8230;And a lot humbled.
Who8217;s less intimidating8212;Vinod Chopra, the producer, or Vinod Chopra, the director?
Mr Chopra8217;s great for any director or actor. Once you convince him, he8217;s behind you all the way. He took a risk backing so many newcomers 8211; Dada Pradeep Sarkar, Shantanu, Swanand lyricist Swanand Kirkire, Nutty cinematographer Natrajan and me in Parineeta. Munnabhai MBBS was a gamble too and even with Lage Raho8230;he was treading a dicey path what with the references to
Now that you8217;re back home we hear you8217;ll soon be jetting down South to say 8220;Good morrrrrning Hyderabad8221; to Chiranjeevi in Shankar Dada Zindabad, the Telugu version of Lage Raho Munnabhai.
Unfortunately, I won8217;t be able to do the film because of date problems. But I will be flying down South soon for the Hindi remake of Priyadarshan8217;s Chandramukhi.
In which, we8217;re told, you8217;re playing a Bengali dancer and so have been taking Kathak lessons?
I8217;m not learning Kathak, no. And as far as my role is concerned, my director would be the best person to answer any query since I don8217;t know how much I8217;m at a liberty to reveal.
Can you at least tell us if you are a part of Rajkumar Hirani8217;s Munnabhai Chala Amrika?
I8217;d love to be but I8217;ve just returned from Australia and spent the better part of the last couple of days sleeping off my jet-lag. If it8217;s a continuation of the same story I8217;ll be in. If not, maybe not. That8217;s how I came to replace Gracy in Lage Raho Munnabhai.
General opinion on your last release, Salaam-e-Ishq was that you were pretty horrible to dear John and made him cry a lot.
That8217;s an unfair accusation. I wasn8217;t bad to John personally. We were both playing characters and mine had just been through a near-fatal accident that had resulted in a memory loss. When you are feeling particularly vulnerable you can8217;t help but be a little frazzled.
The film has not done well. I believe this was one film the normally cautious Vidya gave the nod to almost immediately.
Yeah, Nikhil director Nikhil Advani had not even narrated the entire script to me. I had no idea what the other tracks were like. I heard just this one story and connected with it in a flash. People have been too harsh on Nikhil. They may not have liked the film but they could have applauded him for making a different film. It was a brave step for a one-film old director.
