Slain cops remembered

To pay tributes to the policemen who had laid down their lives for the country, 8220;Police Commemoration Day8221; was observed at the Police Lines here on Tuesday. SP D Gurmeet Singh was the chief guest on the occasion. Floral tributes were paid to the policemen of Khanna police district who were killed during the days of terrorism. The police team led by DSP H Raminder Singh saluted the departed souls. DSP of Payal, Ratan Singh Brar, and DSP D Balwinder Singh read the names of those policemen who got martyred during last year in different parts of the country. SP D Gurmeet Singh gave away blankets to the family members of deceased policemen. Gurmeet Singh also heard the problems being faced by the family members after the function.

Death anniversary meet of Basant Khalsa

KHANNA: Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and president of SAD B Sukhbir Singh Badal will be present at the function to be organised here on Friday to pay tributes to former MP and Akali leader, late Basant Singh Khalsa on his 12th death anniversary. Besides, other cabinet ministers and leaders of SAD B and BJP will also attend the function, according to a release. Basant Singh Khalsa was elected MP in 1996 from Ropar constituency. His son, Bikramjeet Singh Khalsa is MLA from Khanna at present.
