The Konkan Railway on Wednesday achieved another milestone as the world’s first Skybus test-run at the Margao junction was successful. It had worked overtime for the past five months to construct the 1.6-km track for the test required to declare it safe — a pre-condition set by the Urban Development Ministry. The trial was personally supervised by MD, Konkan Railway, B. Rajaram.

The Skybus Metro and Self-stabilizing Track, indigenous technologies developed by the Konkan Railway Corporation, have received the US patent already. ‘‘The preliminary test-run is the first small step but will radically change the metro transportation scene,’’ said Rajaram. The self-stabilizing track is another landmark technology which makes the track virtually maintenance-free. KRC has claimed that the Skybus can solve the transportation problems in metros without using up much space.
