
The Goregoan police arrested a gang of five burglars along with their ringleader recently. According to the police, the gang operated mainly in Goregoan east and used to steal spare parts of vehicles from the godowns in the area. At times, they also targeted homes mostly in the Virvani Industrial area, said the police.
8220;They used to gain entry into the godowns by breaking the locks with iron crowbars. Their ringleader Muhammed Younis Aka Laden was arrested from the Kurla Bus Terminus on September 8, while he was boarding a train to his hometown Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh. As many as 18 housebreaking cases are registered against him,8221; said the police.
During his interrogation, we came to know about his associates Firoz Khan20, Muhamad Khan 22, Vajid Khan 21 and Durgaprasad Gupta 24 and arrested them from their houses near Ambedkar chowk in Goregoan, said the police. According to the Goregoan police, they have seized brass, copper and iron spare parts worth around Rs 7,21,628 from the accused.
8220; There are 15 cases registered against Laden in 2008. Three other housebreaking cases were registered against
him in 2007 also. Many similar cases have been registered in police stations like Dindoshi and we suspect the same gang8217;s involvement in them. After Laden8217;s arrest, we could arrest other accused also,8221; said Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone 12 Ajit Patil. According to him, the gang members used to sell these spare parts to various scrap dealers and earn money.
8220;We have recovered the stolen materials from their houses as well as some scrap dealers8217; houses,8221; added Patil.
