
Singur simmered again on Sunday as members of the Trinamool Congress-backed Krishi Jami Bachao Committee clashed with the police during their attempt to enter Singur in protest against the Tata Motors project in the area.
Police resorted to lathicharge, tear gas shells and water canon to disperse the mob in several spots along the Durgapur expressway.
Inspector General of Police Arun Gupta said 11 police personnel were injured in the clashes. 8220;We had to fire 21 rounds of tear gas shells to control the situation 8212; 18 rounds were used in Dankuni and two rounds each in Bajemelia and Ghoshpara,8221; he said.
The protestors meanwhile claimed 30 of them were injured. No arrests were made till this report was filed in the evening.
In a separate incident, miscreants damaged a Tata Motors godown on National Highway 2 near Jaipurbil in Howrah district.
Police said protestors organised meetings on Sunday morning at different places near Singur. Police restricted vehicle movement at different entry points to Singur, including Durgapur expressway.
