Popular demand
Critics thought that Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya was as bad as Auzaar, if not worse. Many journalists even walked out after the interval, but guess what? Audiences have loved the film. So, forget about what director Sohail Khan did with his debut film. Go see Pyar… instead. People have loved the film and box-office collections prove it. Trade pundits also feel that this may help Jab Pyar Kisise Hota Hai, which stars Salman and Twinkle Khanna. The film releases next month — and the songs are already climbing the countdown charts.
Love’s run
Now you all know about Sohail’s elopement. That romance has baffled everyone. Seema Sachdev was Vikram Ahuja’s fiance. Just a day before she got engaged to Vikram (the son of Twentieth Century’s Dev Ahuja), Seema sat sullenly with Vikram, and his friends, at the Trattoria in the President Hotel. But she had no reason for that long face. The marriage was hardly an arranged one as Seema had been seeing Vikram for along time. On and off, she was spotted with Sohail at the Piano Bar but no one thought there was a romance brewing.
Sad story
Now that it is clear that Yugpurush is no Agnisakshi, the film industry is dumping the blame on everything in sight. For instance, Parto Ghosh, the director, is upset with the pre-publicity of the film — he holds that responsible for poor box-office collections. Excuse me, but what about the fact that the storyline is so morbid? The end is so depressing that people are keeping away from the film. Jackie Shroff goes to jail, Nana Patekar goes back to the mental asylum and Manisha Koirala dies. The message is clear: Make the audience happy and they will make sure that the distributors go laughing all the way to the bank.
Glass cover
N Chandra, the director who always sported an arty look, is a funny sight these days. He has dyed his hair and abandoned his pajamas for trousers. He has even got rid of his spectacles and wears contact lenses instead. Wehave no objection to someone trying to change their appearance, but Chandra has taken it too far. His glasses served a valuable purpose — it disguised how cock-eyed the Tezaab director is.
Falling apart
It is unfortunate — a marriage which was solemnised only seven months ago has ended in the divorce courts. Now before a flood of names come to mind, let me quickly say that I am talking about Rajlakshmi and Samir Soni. The two models who met during the Cadbury’s chocolate ad shoot, are no longer love’s young dream.
Recently, Soni was splashed across film glossies due to an alleged link with Mamta Kulkarni. We maintained that the whole affair was a publicity stunt since the two are starring in Raj Kumar Santoshi’s China Gate. They are also doing an NFDC film together. But it is not a triangle that is tearing apart this marriage. There were problems from the start. Rani (that’s her pet name) had to take up modelling again as Soni was just starting his film career and financiallythings were tight. Matters got worse when his mother moved in with them. Now gossip rags are looking for a new twist. And poor Rahul Roy has been dragged into it. A scribe called up Soni and told him that Rani was living in with Rahul and the Roy boy had confirmed this. The Aashiqui one-hit wonder is really upset. "I have never hidden my girlfriends, so why would I lie now? All I want to say is that I have a new woman — who has moved in — she happens to be my mother," he says.
Wife woes
Maybe Amrita Singh should seriously think of taking up tele-serial offers. She is certainly better off as an actress than as hubby Saif’s secretary. Producers hate attitude and can a star ever shed her airs? No, it appears. For, believe this or not, producers will heave a sigh of relief if Saif finds a replacement for Amrita. Not as his wife but as his business manager. Dealing with this Mard is hard to handle.
