Nilesh Bendre annexes district blind chess title
Nilesh Bendre, a second year BA student of Poona College, bagged the second edition of Pune District Blind Chess Championship title, organised by the Pune Chess Association of the Blind, at the Nehru Stadium recently.

Nilesh amassed 4.5 points from a possible five defeating Dashrat Shinde in the final round. The second spot was shared by Dashrat Shinde and Shobha Lokhande, who were tied with four points each. However, better progressive points favouring Dashrat confined Shobha to third place.

The highlight of the tournament was the 14-year-old Rahul Jirpe, who playing his first competitive chess finished fourth with three points.

A total of 28 players from Pune District participated in the two-day tournament. The meet was inaugurated by Bhai Nevrekar, while Maharashtra Chess Association of the Blind president Eknath Sawant presided over the function.

Mhetre, Pundle bag silver
Parag Mhetre of DY Patil College of Engineering, Pimpri and Sulakshana Pundle of Maharashtra Institute of Technology MIT won laurels for Pune, winning silver medals in their respective section in an International Karate Championship, at Holland recently. Parag Mhetre finished runners-up in the above 65 kg category, while Sulkshana Pundle won the silver in above 40 kg section. Both karatekas are from the SF Indian Kyo Kushin Karate Do Association, Pune and International Budo Federation, Pune.

Judo, karate camp
Poona Judo Association will be conducting a 18-days summer vacation camp for Judo and Karate from April 12 to 30. The programme includes basic training in the two discipline, the techniques, art of self-defence and competitive level training. Rs 100 per person will be charged as entrance fees for the camp.
