Schools tennis
The first all India inter-schools tennis championships will be held on the newly-laid deco turfs of the CSKM Public School, Mehrauli, from October 14 to 23. The tournament, organised by the Peninsula Tennis Academy, will essentially be an under-12 team championships for both boys and girls. Each tie will be played on a best-of-three basis — two singles and a doubles — and will be a knock-out affair. Tie-break rules will apply in each set at 6-6.

The organisers, in a press release, said out-station teams would be provided complimentary boarding and lodging. According to them, already 50 schools have sent in entries with enrolment being kept open till October 10.

Chirag sparkles
A fine knock of 90 (12×4, 87 balls) by Chirag Paul and an all-round display by left-handed Shashank Gulani (28 off 10 balls and 3 for 28) helped St Columba’s School beat Don Bosco by 89 runs n the Bro Foley memoral tournament at St Columba’s.

St Columba’s: 264 (Chirag paul 90, Mudit 30, Shashank Gulani 28, Nikhil 27 not out, Hitesh Marwah 2 for 40, Nigil Bhatti 2 for 39, Krishnan 2 for 50). Don Bosco: 175 (Anshul 58, Krshnan 23, Shashank 3 for 28, Vaibhav Rastogi 3 for 38).

Polio football
Rouse Avenue School beat Delhi Public School (Mathura Road) 5-4 in tie-breaker in the Polio Unmoolan football tournament. In the regulation period Muhammad Sufain scored for DPS while Santosh scored for Rouse Avenue. In tie-breaker Arnath, Anjan and Fauhad scored while Sofain and Sushant fail to score.

For Rouse Avenue Tikan Singh Bist, Chandan Singh, Bhupinder Singh and Santosh all availed the chance. In another match Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan School defeated Tagore International School 2-1. Himanshu and Deepak scored for the winners while Amit scored for the losers.

Delhi bridge
The Delhi State bridge championships will be held at the Delhi Bridge Association building (18, Institutional Area, Lodi Road) from October 2 to 4. Events will be held in Team of Four Duplicate, Open Pairs and Mixed Pairs. Entries will be accepted on the spot. This year’s National Bridge Championships will be held in Delhi during November 7-16 at I G Stadium. About 300 teams all over the country are expected to participate.

Jaspal Kaur TT
The 11th Jaspal Kaur memorial open table tennis tournament will be held at Jaspal Kaur Public School, B-Paschmi Shalimar Bagh from October 18 to 23. Entries close on October 13 with Hukam Sngh, 6/2543, Beadonpura, Karol Bagh; R K Sharma, manager, Talkatora Stadium; and Devinder Sahni at the school.

Boxing meet
Delhi State Boxing championships for men (juniors and seniors) and women (17 yrs to 34 yrs) will be held at Arya Samaj Mandir Park, Dakshin Puri, Ambedkar Nagar from October 22 to 26. Desirous boxers (men and women) may contact Raj Kumar, Boxing Federation office, Nehru Stadium (Phone 4641441). Entries close on October 15.

Referees’ clinic
Delhi Basketball Association will orgainse a one-day clinic for the referees at Master Prithvi Nath Basketball stadium, Ajmal Khan Park on October 1 at 8 p.m.
