
Akshat, Gaurav win titles
Akshat Kumar and Gaurav Gupta emerged new champions in the Delhi state under-12 and 14, respectively, rapid chess championship held at St Joan8217;s Convent Lodhi complex.
Akshat won all the four rounds to win the u-12 title. In the third round, he forced top seed R Srinivasan to resign in the 34th move.
In the under-14 section, Gaurav Gupta won the title after getting three points from three rounds.
Akshat Kumar, R Srinivasan, Gaurav Gupta and Ashwin will represent Delhi at the Nationals u-12 and 14 at Guntur AP.

Delhi rugby
Shiksha Bharti and Sarvodaya Kanya Raj Nagar won the boys and girls titles, respectively, in the Delhi State rugby championships. Shiksha Bharti Senior Secondary School Palam beat Kalgidhar Khalsa School Subhash Nagar 8-3 in the final. In the girls section, Sarvodaya School defeated Shivani Model School 10-0.
Shukla shines
Opening batsman Amit Shukla, who aggregated 600 runs with 114 as his highest, and skipper and leg-spinner Sandeep Joshi who claimed 33 wickets, were the most successful batsman and bowler, respectively, in the Delhi Blues team which returned from a month-long tour of the United Kingdom recently.
All-rounder Pradeep Deswal 436 runs and 11 wickets, Sandeep Gulati 390 runs, Radhey Shyam Gupta 266 runs, Maninder Bola 21 wickets and medium pacer Inderbeer Singh 13 wickets were the other impressive performers on the tour where Delhi Blues played 17 matches, according to coach Gurcharan Singh, who had accompanied the team.
Renu to lead
Renu Choudhary will lead Delhi women8217;s sub-junior cricket team in the national championship to be held at Kurnool Andhra Pradesh, from September 25 to October 2.

Players honoured
International football players Prasun Bannerjee, G S Parmar, Sq Ldr S K Singh, Subroto Datta and Air Force team captain Hans Raj were honoured by the Federation of Indian Games today. The federation had earlier honoured Dinesh Aswal body builder with a cash award of Rs 21,000. A body show was organised on the occasion. Dinesh Aswal, Dharam Singh, Mukesh, Naresh, Surinder, Rakesh, Parveen and a handicapped boy Anil sharma gave the demonstration.
Ajmal Khan win
Ajmal Khan Coaching Centre beat Shakarpur No. 1 in the Maharaja Agarsen under-17 Cup on the basis of run rate as the match was abandoned due to rain. Rajinder Bisht scored 87 off 70 balls for the winners while Avtar Singh 33 was the main scorer for the losers.
