Ten-member boxing team for Mauritius

Suresh Singh and CA Kuttappa were among the ten pugilists who left for Mauritius today to represent India in a tournament and training programme. The ten boxers, members of the Indian training camp in Bangalore will use this trip, an exchange programme with Mauritius, to gain international exposure, said Kishen Narsi, vice-president of the Indian Amateur Boxing Federation.

The ten boxers virtually form the country B squad, having finished winners or runners-up in the National Championships.

Suresh Singh and Kuttappa were members of the similar training trip to Cuba recently. International Lalit Prasad, who was also named in the team, could not travel because he did not possess his passport.

The team: Suresh Singh light fly weight, Dalveer Singh fly and Bikram Gautam super heavy, Zotham Mawia Bantam, Manoj Panwar Feather, CA Kuttappa light, Jeevan Fernandez light heavy, K Sanjit Singh light welter, Devender Gill welter and Durjai Shastrilight middle. GB Gurung of SSCB and JS Waldia of ar would be the coaches while D Bhikaji of Maharashtra would be the referee cum judge.

Nine-a-side football

St Stephen8217;s Sports Club Cumballa Hill will be organizing their annual Stephenites Challenge Cup nine-a-side football tournament at the Priyadarshani Park on August 22. For details contact Gasper 389 1840 or Robert 367 1127. Entries close on August 15.
