
Fatima camp concludes
A country that can produce doctors, engineers, a country that can compete with nuclear space super powers, can definitely produce world class sportsmen,8221; said SK Swaminathan, General Manager Indian Oil Corporation, while addressing the 300-odd trainees, yesterday, on the concluding of the 16th Fatima summer coaching camp at Vidyavihar.
Swaminathan also appealed to the 250-300 parents, who had assembled to encourage their wards who wanted to make a carrer in sports, that: 8220;It is you who are going to tell them that education and sports can go hand-in-hand,8221; he stressed.
The Fatima Sports Development programme is worthy of emulation by other institutions was the opinion expressed by P Narayanmurthy, the DGM Canara Bank. He also assured the sports club of the Bank8217;s continued support towards development of sports. In this one-month camp 300 children were given training in football, hockey, athletics and basketball. Free T-shirts and refreshments were provided to theparticipants daily. Indian Oil was the main sponsor, while Canara Bank, Abhyudaya Co-op Bank and HDFC were the co-sponsors.

GMAAA swimming tourney n THE Greater Mumbai Amateur Aquatic Association GMAAA will conduct their swimming championship at the MGMO pool, Shivaji Park, from May 22-24.
The diving events will be held at the PM Hindu Bath, Chowpatty, on May 18 and the water-polo competition will be held at the MGMO pool from May 16 to 21.
The championships form the basis of selection for the State championships, which are scheduled to be held in Pune from June 3 to 6.
The championships have attracted about 400 participants from 25 affiliated clubs. There are a total of 108 swimming events, 18 diving events andtwo water-polo events.
