St Anthony8217;s champs

ST Anthony8217;s SC got past Chembur Stars SC 3-1 and won the 8th Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Parish Football Tournament played at the OLPS ground, Chembur.

Chembur SC took lead in the 6th minute when Vicky Sawant headed home on a flag-kick. Thereafter, Gavin Mendonca took initiative and won a free-kick in the box and Arun Menon did nothing wrong in scoring. Mendonca put Anthony8217;s ahead on the flag-kick. The star striker wrote the second goal against his name in the dying minute.

Fatima supreme

Fatima Sport Club Mahim trounced Companeroes 4-0 to emerge supreme in the Theresian Sport Club Rink football tournament at the Theresian School ground, Bandra.

Caitiano Fernandes, who was adjudged the best player of the competition, scored twice and Roy Fernandes also netted a brace.

Result of semi-finals:Companeroes 2 David, Lucio bt Seaview 1 Nitin Kotian; Fatima 2 Caitiano Fernandes 2 bt Bandra Packers 0.

Benare extended

Former State playerShirish Benare was taken the full distance before prevailing 21-10, 20-22, 21-13 over Sagar Godambe in a men8217;s singles first-round match of the Thane District Ranking table tennis tournament, conducted by Maratha Hitwardhak Mandal, Dombivli, today.
