MUMBAI, August 5: The Gokuldham Chess Club will conduct a two-day Open Rapid Chess Tournament on August 16 and 23 Sundays at the Gokuldham High School, near Dindoshi Depot, Goregaon E.

Each player will get 30 minutes on the clock to play in the event which offers Rs 1250 as cash prize for the winner. Players with their own chess clocks will be reimbursed Rs 20, says a GCC press release.

MCA Umpires exam on October 10
The Mumbai Cricket Association MCA will be holding an umpires examination on October 10. Candidates emerging successful after the written tests will qualify for the viva-voce and practical tests.

The MCA will be holding coaching classes for new aspirants from August 10 at the Wankhede Stadium in the evenings. AM Mamsa in English Monday, Wednesday and Fridayand MS Pathak in Marathi Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Those interested to join the classes should contact Dara Dotiwalla, secretary, Board of Umpires for admission forms and other details at the MCA office between 4.00 and 6.00 p.m. on weekdays, says a release.

All-India Inter-bank powerlifting
The Indian Banks8217; Association8217;s sixth All India Inter-Bank Powerlifting Championship will be held at the NAB Workshop for the Blind hall, Worli from August 17. The two-day event, organised by the Bank of Maharashtra, will form the basis for the selection of the Bank Sports Board team for the National Powerlifting Championship scheduled to be held at Hyderabad. University prize distribution
