A 25-year-old man was found dead after he purportedly fell from the terrace of his friend’s house in Northwest Delhi’s Azadpur area on Sunday evening, police said, adding that his family has raised suspicions of foul play.

The deceased, identified as Bhavishya, a resident of Railway Road in Azadpur, was brought in an unconscious state to Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital by his friend Vansh at around 7:40 pm, police said. He was declared dead at the hospital, officers added.

Delhi Police said they received an intimation from the hospital following which a team from Adarsh Nagar police station reached the hospital and began a probe. During preliminary questioning, the family of the deceased expressed suspicion that Bhavishya may not have fallen accidentally and alleged possible involvement of his friends, officers said.

During the probe, it came to light that Bhavishya had been on the terrace of a house in Lal Bagh in Azadpur, along with four of his friends at the time of the incident, police said.

The house belongs to Lalit Rawat (21). The others present included Nitesh Tomar (19), Vansh (18) and Kanishk, a cousin of Nitesh.

“Initial inquiry suggests that all five were mutual friends and were together on the terrace when Bhavishya fell. At present, there is no evidence to indicate any foul play and the allegations appear to be unsubstantiated,” a senior police officer said.

However, police said the matter remains under investigation. Statements of all those present are being recorded and the post-mortem examination has been conducted to ascertain the exact cause of death, they added.

“Once the post-mortem report is received and all necessary enquiries are completed, appropriate legal action will be taken as per law,” the officer added.

During the investigation, a purported video clip surfaced where one of the victim’s friends was on a call with Rawat – whose house the victim fell from.

In the purported video, Rawat can be heard alleging that the victim had tried to choke him before a scuffle broke out. “We have kept all possibilities open during the investigation and are looking into the clip. We will pursue the lead once it’s verified,” said a police officer close to the investigation.
