VADODARA, July 13: Officials of the District Metrology department fined as many as 150 shopkeepers and vegetable sellers for keeping inaccurate weights and measures in raids conducted on Friday.

According to an official release, the raids were conducted in the Panchvati bus stand area, the Gorwa vegetable market, Ellora Park and Subhanpura vegetable markets. Fines worth Rs 13,600 were recovered from the guilty, the release said, adding the inaccurate gadgets were also seized.

Inspections were carried out when sales were on and it was ensured that the weights and measures being used in selling were examined. In all, gadgets of 285 sellers were inspected, of which 103 were found inaccurate.

On Saturday, similar inspections were carried out in some markets falling in the same areas and fine worth Rs 7,750 was recovered from 47 shopkeepers and vegetable sellers.The raids, according to the statement, were carried out with the help of traders’ representatives from Gorwa and Undhera villages.
