MUMBAI, JAN 8: Shivaji Park Gymkhana are well placed against Cricket Club of India on the first day of the two-day Purshottam Shield cricket tournament at Brabourne Stadium on Staurday. CCI, after conceding a first innings lead of 96 runs, were 49 for five in their second innings at close of play.

The SPG trio of Shreeram Kannan (3-20), Yogesh Kaudhare (4-9) and Rupam Malviya (2-19) had CCI reeling at 66-9 when they declared their innings to collect 40 penalty runs as Shivaji Park Gymkhana bowled five overs short.

New mark for James
Four new meet records were set on the third and penultimate day of the second Ryan International Sports Club state athletic meet at University Stadium, Marine Lines, on Saturday. In boys under-18 discus throw, Brijender Singh of Nagindas Khandwala, Malad (W) logged a record 41.04 metres. In boys under-16, Rocky James of Ryan SC threw the shot put to a new mark of 13.85m. Sheriyar Irani also bettered the meet record with a throw of 13.53 metres.

In the girls under-18 long jump, Ketki Gune ofDyanamos, Thane, leapt to a record distance of 5.13m. Genu Abraham also bettered the record with 4.84m. In boys under-20, 4×100 relay, the hosts set a new meet record clocking 47.3 seconds. Prabhodhan, with a timing of 47.6s, also improved the meet record.

Ghatkopar YMCA win
Ghatkopar YMCA defeated St Xavier’s 61-40 in the junior boys section of the 3rd Fr Agnel Open basketball tournament at Fr Agnel complex, Vashi, on Saturday.

Rajput, Khalsa win
