SOLAN:
The police arrested one Suresh Kumar on charges of rape and abduction of a minor Dalit girl from Sarai village under Nalagarh sub-division in this district, last night. District police chief M. L. Negi said here today that Sonika 15, a Class X student who was allegedly abducted on June 9 while she was returning home from school, had also been recovered from the same village. A case under Sections 363, 366 and 376 of IPC had been registered.

MOGA:
The Faridkot district administration has registered a case against Chattarpal Singh, BDPO, under Section 120 of the Punjab State Election Commission Act for negligence in performing his duties at the time of scrutiny and allocation of symbols to the candidates. This was disclosed here on Monday by H. L. Kumar, ADC-cum-District Electoral Officer, Faridkot. Bhajan Singh has now been appointed Returning Officer in place of Chattarpal Singh, the ADC said.

SUNDERNAGAR:
Gian Chand Thakur, president of Himachal Class III Policemen Association, today welcomed the formation of an additional police force comprising 900 jawans. Thakur said this would reduce the burden on the Himachal Armed Police and provide job opportunities to youth. He further urged the Chief Minister to implement the Yudhvir Commission report and set up police training centres at each district headquarter.

SOLAN:
The Himachal Pradesh Non-gazetted Officers Federation has threatened to launch an agitation if the state government did not take the federation into confidence before taking a decision on abolishing the State Administrative Tribunal. Chairman Gopal Dass Verma today said that the tribunal, which was set up by the previous government after 50,000 cases had piled up in various courts, had benefited majority of the employees. He said that instead of winding up the tribunal, the government should strengthen it by opening two permanent benches at Mandi and Dharamsala.

BILASPUR:
A weeklong indefinite fast by the teachers8217; joint action committee was called off here last evening, with the Deputy Commissioner providing juice to the leaders Kishori Lal Sharma and Roshan Lal Sharma. Committee general secretary Gianchand Ghambir said here today that the agitation had been withdraw following assurance that their grievances would be redressed within a fortnight.

SANGRUR:
Traders of Barnala home-town of Union minister S.S. Barnala today observed a complete bandh to protest the hike in house tax, electricity charges, sewerage bills, octroi and the frequent power breakdowns. The angry traders raised slogans against the ruling SAD-BJP combine in the state and the Central government. A massive rally was held at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chowk, where various speakers accused the SAD-BJP combine of creating a gulf between ruralites and the urban population.

NAHAN:
The Nahan Rotary Club and the district administration recently organised a joint evaluation rehabilitation camp at Haripurdhar, at which 194 cases were registered and 86 persons would be provided artificial limbs free of cost. Handicapped Camp chairman D. L. Aggarwal urged the beneficiaries to bring the income and handicapped certificates here on July 8, when the artificial limbs would be distributed at a function being organised for forming a new club team.

PATIALA:
Punjabi University will conduct the entrance test for admission to B.Com. Course in the colleges affiliated to Punjabi University on June 22. Giving this information, Dr. B.S. Maangat, Professor of Mathematics and coordinator of the test, has said that over 4100 candidates would sit in the test at 21 examination centres spread over seven districts. B.Com. course is available in 33 colleges.

Plea
BILASPUR:
Himachal Pradesh Public Works Department Assistant Engineers Association has urged the government to set up bridge construction corporation here on the Uttar Pradesh pattern to ensure provision of funds and expertise in bridge construction. A resolution tothis effect was passed at the state-level executive meeting chaired by executive president N. R. Sharma here today. The committee also urged the government to reinstate three engineers of Bilaspur who were suspended in wake of collapse of bailey bridge at Ghamrola last month.

Ban
ROPAR:
The Punjab government has lifted a ban on holding of cattle fairs in the state, with effect from today. Giving this information here today, Deputy Commissioner Kulbir Singh Sidhu said that the state government had imposed the ban due to the outbreak of Foot-and-Mouth Disease in cattle in various districts of the state. He further said the cattle fairs would now be held on scheduled dates in all districts, as the government was satisfied that the disease was fully under control.

Disconnected
ROOPNAGAR:
Following directions by the Punjab Pollution Control Board, the power supply to a paper mill here was disconnected by officials of the Electricity Department. Sources at the local PSEB today revealed that the power connection to Shreyans Industries Limited at Bandh village was disconnected following direction from the concerned authorities.
