NEW DELHI, August 20: Five-time champions Shastri Club strengthened their position for a semi-final berth with a fluent 2-0 victory over New Delhi Heroes in a group II match of the DSA-SAIL super league at the Ambedkar Stadium here tonight.

With this victory Shastri have six points from two games while Heroes have just a solitary point from as many matches.

Shastri, playing a disjointed game, picked up momentum in the middle of the first half and it paid dividends immediately. Towars the end of the first session, outside left Vimal Thapa8217;s solo effort from the middle saw Shastri taking the lead.

On changing ends, Shastri continued with their domination and soon enough consolidated their position. Again Thapa contributed when he sent in a fine centre on the right for captain Bhupinder Thakur to do the rest. The captain deceived custodian Rajat Guha to net in.

In the last 15 minutes of the game, Heroes went all out and built up pressure. But midfielder Subash Negi and Vikram Bhandari missed open chances to add to the gloom.

Earlier in the first game, Collegians held Goans to a goalless draw to split points. Collegians have two from two matches while Goans have just a solitary point.
