
AMRITSAR, March 9: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandak Committee SGPC chief Gurcharan Singh Tohra today called budget session of the SGPC General House on March 30.
Surjit Singh, secretary of the SGPC, said notice for the meeting had been sent to all the members through registered post. The meeting would be held in the Teja Singh Samundari Hall at 1 p.m.
Meanwhile, the SGPC today accused Deputy Commissioner Narinderjit Singh of playing partisan role in the Sikh affairs. The SGPC secretary alleged that the DC had refused to accept the copy of the notice for the March 22 General House meeting, sent to him through speed post.
The SGPC authorities said notices were dispatched to the DC on March 3 and 4, which were received back today with the comments 8220;refused to accept8221;. He also refused to accept a copy of the same from a special messenger. The SGPC, however, has faxed the copy to his residence.
The presence of the DC is mandatory in the General House, called under section 63 Sikh Gurdwara Act and Rule 12 of Sikh Gurdwara election of executive committee and office bearers Rules, 1925. The election of the new office-bearers would become mandatory after no-confidence motion is passed. Under the act, the DC is authorised to preside over the meeting.
The SGPC, in its letter to the DC, has urged him to reach the meeting in time. The members, who have called General House on March 16, have also written to the DC to attend the meeting. The Deputy commissioner was not available for comments.
