Jalpaiguri police today arrested seven persons with alleged links with the Kamtapuri Liberation Organisation (KLO) while they suspect that six others behind yesterday’s attack near Mainaguri Police Station — in which two people were killed and five others injured — have slipped into Bangladesh.

According to reports reaching here, six Kamtapuri Liberation Organisation (KLO) men with high-powered guns arrived on motorcycles near the Mainaguri

Police Station and started firing indiscriminately on Saturday.

Two people were killed and five others injured in the attack.

Coming just a few months after the Operation Flushout in Bhutan, the attack sent alarm bells among the North Bengal police.

Just a few days back, the North Bengal Police while preparing a list of 167 KLO activists, had found 22 of them missing.

‘‘With Bangladesh border near and easy to crossover, the remaining KLO leaders will resort to hit-and-run tactics, such as these especially during the coming Lok Sabha elections,’’ said senior police official.
