VALLABH VIDYANAGAR, AUG 10: A serial killer, Babu Udesinh Parmar, who has raped two minors and two women and then strangled them, was arrested by the Vallabh Vidyanagar police on Wednesday. He has also killed a boy, while one of the girls he raped managed to escape.
Incidentally, Parmar was arrested for a vehicle theft and the police stumbled upon his involvement in the murders during interrogation.
According to police, within one year from August 1997, five persons fell victim to Parmar, causing terror in Karamsad and Vallabh Vidyanagar. DSP Vikas Sahay said Parmar had targetted women working at lonely places.
His first victim was eight-year-old Dipika Mahida of Mosar village who, however, managed to flee after being raped on August 6, 1997. The same day, he raped Gajanaben Jalpada (33) and strangled her. Her body was found near the VV Nagar railway crossing. The next day, he killed, for reasons yet unknown, an unidentified 14-year-old boy whose body he hid in a banana plantation.
In May 1998, Parmar targetted Valiben Mithabhai (65), near Dhedi Talavdi of Karamsad. He raped, then killed her. On July 1, he kidnapped Savita Kalara, a young girl, from her house in Karamsad. She was found raped and strangled with her own frock. The next day, he targetted Taraben near Sardar Patel School in Karamsad while she was collecting flowers.
Sub-Inspector A G Patel said Parmar had been stealing two-wheelers. This morning, he wandering on the outskirts of Karamsad, where he resides, when the police picked him up, suspecting him in the vehicle-lifting case.
