
Imports of 300 sensitive items, being monitored by a special cell in the commerce ministry, increased by a staggering 38 per cent to Rs 12,022 crore during the April-November period of this fiscal compared to Rs 8,707 crore during the corresponding period of the previous year. The major item that contributed to the growth was crude palm oil and its fractions. The value of import of the sensitive items constituted 5.5 per cent of the gross imports.
