The stock markets on Monday heaved a sigh of relief after the Reliance group reassured investors that the issue of ownership of the company had been settled by group founder Dhirubhai Ambani in his lifetime.

After the initial crash, the market recovered and ended with a small gain, despite a fresh jump in the international oil price. Down by 83.74 points in early trades, the 30-share BSE Sensitive Index eventually ended with a small gain of 2.09 points at 5,963.80.

The benchmark index had shed 64 points on Friday after reports of the differences between the Ambanis.

The NSE S038;P CNX Nifty index gained 1 point to end at 1,873.35.
