NEW DELHI, DECEMBER 23: In a first instance of its kind in recent memory, Rajya Sabha Chairman Krishan Kant on Thursday reprimanded Shiv Sena member Sanjay Nirupam saying his conduct on Wednesday had quot;eroded the dignity of the Housequot;.

quot;I denounce and deprecate the conduct of Shri Sanjay Nirupam. I, therefore, reprimand him,quot; Kant said soon after the question hour, observing the incident was quot;disorderly and painfulquot;.

The House was abruptly adjourned on Wednesday for the day amidst pandemonium over certain remarks attributed to Nirupam with CPI-M demanding that the member be named and suspended at least for a week for quot;demeaning the prestige of the Housequot;.

Former Union minister K K Tewary was reprimanded in 1991 and as he was not a member of the House at that time, he was summoned to the Bar of the House to receive his reprimand for his utterances outside about the then chairman Shanker Dayal Sharma.

The House was plunged into turmoil on Wednesday over Nirumpam8217;s alleged remarks about a particular community provoking nominated member Shabana Azmi to rush to the chairman to lodge a protest with him.
