
MUMBAI, July 15: Sselect pivotals remained slightly subdued on the Bombay Stock Exchange BSE today mainly in the absence of speculative support and lack of institutional buying. Resuming steady, a few scrips advanced during the earlier part of the session but due to profit-taking and lack of fresh buying and share prices declined towards the end. The closing rates showed small changes. The volume of business remained below normal.
The BSE senstive index opened around its previous closing level 4225.02 and touched a high 4261.03 but dropped to a low 4204.72 before finishing 4221.02 with a minor loss of 4 points compared to the previous level 4225.02. The BSE-100 index was down by 1.24 at 1836.09 from 1837.33.
Brokers said that activity was low as the investors preferred to wait and watch the political developments at the centre as well as in Bihar. Select scrips were in demand while some were sold by domestic institutions for squaring up positions in view of today being the last session on the National Stock Exchange.
Reliance gained Rs 2.50 at 350.50, SBI Rs 7 at 344, ITC Rs 7.25 at 514.75 and Tata Steel Rs 5 at 210.75 on short-covering. While Telco declined by Rs 8.50 to 417.50 on profit-taking, Bajaj Auto lost Rs 21.75 at 826.75 on selling pressure.
In cash group, Bajaj Tempo fell by Rs 10 to 216.50, Infosys Tech by Rs 76.50 to 2404.50, Max India by Rs 16 to 164 and Thomas Cook by Rs 47.50 to 1342.50. While Boots rose by Rs 25 to 705, Elgi by Rs 23.25 to 495.75, Kodak by Rs 15.75 to 537.50 and Tata Information Tech by Rs 44 to 889.
On the last day of the current settlement on NSE, share prices declined due to brisk selling pressure and squaring up. The NSE-50 index opened higher at 1190.50 and rose further to 1195.40. Thereafter, it dropped to 1180.75 and finally settled at 1183.35, showing a small fall of 3.70. Similarly, the Midcap started better at 1271.30 and closed at 1266.40, disclosing a fall of 4.60.The total turnover on NSE was at Rs 1,919.34 crore.
