8226; This refers to 8216;GenNext is GenNow8217; by Shekhar Gupta IE, January 22. These days teenagers seem to know exactly what they want. A case in point is the attempt by emotive young students of Patna8217;s Delhi Public School to meet Laloo Prasad Yadav at the helipad to secure the release of their abducted classmate. Maybe this protest by innocents can brings about a change in the voting pattern in Bihar, with voters rising much above caste-communal-criminal-comic combinations. However the most redeeming change now visible is the increasing proportion of intelligent, highly committed girls in diverse fields 8212; especially in higher professional education.

8226; It is high time that the Government of India, along with the citizens of this country, started showing some faith in the abilities, talent, capabilities and confidence of the youth and started trusting them with the responsibility of enabling India to make a mark for itself in the international arena.

8226; I enjoyed reading this article. It is true that the young generation of India is really out to prove itself. The elders need to put some trust in them. It is also high time for our so-called experienced politicians to sit at home and relax, giving young bidders a chance to run the affairs of Parliament. I8217;m sure that if this happens, India will accomplish great things.

New autocracy

8226; The article 8216;Tracking two faces of power8217; IE, January 22 rightly shows that the shoddy idea of using status and power to gain cheap popularity and boss around can deal a fatal blow to the objective of 8220;egalitarianism8221; and a democratic culture.

Flawed, precious

8226; Your editorial on the Iraq elections 8216;A legitimacy deficit8217;, January 24 is too harsh on the United States. Iraq8217;s elections may not meet the standards of elections in the US or in India but they are a good first step. Given the lack of democracy in the greater Middle East, Iraq8217;s elections in contrast would usher in a representative government.

Dozing custodians

8226; The Supreme Court has ruled that sleeping on the job could be a valid reason for dismissal 8216;Eyes wide shut8217;, IE, January 21. This has posed a great danger to many of our politicians. In Parliament, one routinely sees our elected representatives dozing off while important legislation concerning the nation is being debated. In fact, during his stint in office, H.D. Deve Gowda became very well known as India8217;s sleeping prime minister.
