Discus thrower Seema Antil may give a skip to the Doha Games. The thrower, who was training at Muscat along with 12 other athletes, returned home last week quietly. She was part of the 13-member squad that went to Oman on November 13 to acclimatise itself prior to the big event.

Her return to India has made the rumour mills working overtime and various theories are being floated on the circumstances that forced her to return home. Athletics Federation of India AFI, however, maintained that it was due to family problems that she had to come back. AFI secretary Lalit Bhanot said she had to come back because of her father8217;s illness.

For the moment, it is not clear how long she would stay or whether she would return to Muscat to join the rest of the squad. Efforts to get in touch with Seema at her Sonepat residence proved futile.

The AFI secretary was hopeful that she would go back to Muscat to attend the camp. 8220;We want her to go to Muscat and attend the camp,8221; said Bhanot.

Winner of the silver medal at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games, she failed to cross 58-metre mark in the Inter-State Athletics meet at Chennia in the first week of November.

In Melbourne she had recorded a throw of plus 60 metres. Since then she hasn8217;t been close to it. Seema was among the two discus throwers 8212; the other being Krishna Punia 8212; who had gone to Muscat for a training session.
