The Army on Wednesday instituted a court of inquiry after some jawans violated rules laid down for counter-insurgency operations in Assam.

8220;Three or four drunk jawans entered some houses in the village and carried out search operations in violation of the norms of counter-insurgency operations,8221; CO of the 268 Field regiment Col Naresh Kumar said. Under rules laid down for counter-insurgency operations in the state, security personnel are required to take along a magistrate or a local police officer, or a member of the Village Defence Party or the gaonburra to carry out search operations. The district authorities too have ordered a magisterial probe into the case.
