Yet another red alert has been sounded following Saturday8217;s blasts. But while security looks spot-on at the moment, will it last? Newsline takes stock of the situation since Sarojini Nagar blasts of 2005:

Police was to install CCTV cameras and metal detectors in big markets. But none were in place at Sarojini Nagar and Lajpat Nagar till end of 2007. The residents and market associations had to raise funds for them.

27 cameras installed in Sarojini Nagar this July. Today, none work. Police blames it on a fallout with the company awarded the contract.

Following a red alert, use of metal detectors is enforced. But it is discontinued within months.

Frisking made mandatory at entry points to Sarojini Nagar market, but practice discontinued soon. Policemen sent on other beats. In July, market association employed private security guards.

In Walled City, in front of Jama Masjid8217;s Gate No 1, two metal detectors installed at the entry to the market. But they are unmanned. Cars, bicycles and motorbikes pass through the space between the two metal detectors.
