A top executive of a city-based popular chain of hotels has been arrested for alleged involvement in human trafficking to the United States.

P R Shivakumar, Managing Director and son of Saravana Bhavan Group of Hotels proprietor Rajagopal, was arrested by the Crime Branch CID police on Saturday night on a complaint from the US consulate general office, police said on Sunday.

Shivakumar had allegedly prepared fake documents for four of his employees with an ulterior motive of getting US visas under the pretext of visiting an expo and getting them employed in America, they said. One of the four employees, Ramu Murugaiyan, was arrested this morning.

During the course of their visa interview at the consulate, the officials found out that all the four employees had produced fake documents. All the documents were recovered from the corporate office of the Saravana Bhavan Group of Hotels.

Cases have been registered against the accused for various offences, including cheating and forgery, under various sections of the IPC. Rajagopal, who runs the chain of hotels, was convicted in connection with the murder of an employee a few years ago.
