8226; RSS chief K.S. Sudarshan8217;s very damaging remarks against Vajpayee spring from his personal animosity against the veteran leader and cannot be taken as a balanced critique of the performance of the NDA government 8216;BJP shaken as RSS chief targets Vajpayee, family and Mishra8217;, IE, April 12. His demand for the retirement of the two top leaders of the BJP too cannot be taken seriously. In any case, the BJP can hardly be expected to oblige either Sudarshan or the secular forces. If we take into account Sudarshan8217;s recent disclosures that the Congress took the help of the RSS in Kerala to defeat the Marxists, it cannot be far-fetched to say that there is something cooking behind the scenes between the Congress and the RSS, with a willing editor to act as the go-between. But, from the reactions within the parivar, it is very likely that it would be Sudarshan8217;s head that will roll and not those of the BJP leaders.

CPM8217;s yesterdays

8226; The CPM finally decides to 8220;engage with existing world realities8221; IE, April 13. What irony. The reality is that communism is an anachronism today. There is no place for this ideology that kills individual enterprise, suffocates creativity, subverts democracy, and forces the masses to the will of an unelected dictatorship.

Fuel for terror

8226; I never thought CIA people were that intelligent 8212; pun intended 8216;Iranian mullahs ought to look out8230; there8217;s a chance bin Laden is in Iran8217;, IE, April 13. James Woolsey has hit the nail hard on its head by stating that unless there is energy freedom from oil, it will fuel more terrorism. How come such simple logic does not strike the Indian leadership?

Look east, with care

8226; The importance of the Chinese premier8217;s visit to India this week cannot be overlooked, keeping current world market and industrial trends in mind. The Sino-India relationship has made slow but steady progress in the years following the war of 1962. With settlement of the border dispute in the offing, the two sides can now look forward to starting a new phase in their ties. After all, a joint human resource of over two billion people is unparalleled and unmatched. However, in the usual bonhomie, a word of caution. One must be very clear that China could be willing to toe the 8220;bhai-bhai8221; line till its interests are served. If in the future, India were to seize the economic initiative, the Chinese could go back to their 8220;contain India8221; policy. One must tame the dragon, but be wary of its fiery belly.

Family ties

8226; It is just as well that after much procrastination, the Congress high command has finally mustered the courage to expel K. Muraleedharan, the former KPCC president, from the party. Like the proverbial bulls in a china shop, he and his father, K. Karunakaran, have been running amok sowing the seeds of indiscipline and disintegration in the party and it will be in the fitness of things if the Congress high command takes the rampaging bulls by the horns.
