MUMBAI, April 26: Sachin Tendulkar drives them crazy 8212; be it the bowlers around the world or his fans. The double spectacle that he unleashed at Sharjah to win India the Coca-Cola Cup, today ensured the Vijay Manjrekar Single-Wicket Tournament a big draw.

For, among the various international stars that were to compete in the one-day event today, was Indian cricket8217;s box-office sensation. And as the matches got under way at Shivaji Park, featuring ex-internationals Sandeep Patil, Sanjay Manjrekar, Salil Ankola, Pravin Amre and Atul Bedade the buzz doing the round was: 8220;Tendlya is coming.8221;

The residents of Shivaji Park had seen him blossom from close quarters and were there today also to laud him for having beaten the best. However, they had to return with a frown for their hero suffered an ankle sprain and decided to skip the event which he had won thrice in a row.

There were a few lucky ones though. Tendulkar did make a brief appearance at the venue where he was baptised in the game. Traffic stoodstandstill as he wound his way through a horde of securitymen, watched the proceedings at the ground for a few moments before zooming off in his car.

A gathering of 10,000 awaiting Tendulkar wasn8217;t informed of his absence for security reasons and it was only when the semi-finals got over that the announcement regarding his non-appearance was made over the public address system. Ankola made up for Tendulkar8217;s absence to a certain extent. He clouted nine of the 18 sixes struck during the day. The medium-pacer, who has been out of competitive cricket since the past 14 months after undergoing surgery on his left shin, hogged the limelight before ending runners-up. The tournament was won by 25-year-old Vishwas Walawalkar, who upstaged Ankola.
