Wrapped up
Gharabaher, directed by Sanjay Surkar and produced by Ratan Madan ends up as just another family drama, albeit against a political back-drop. Gharabaher is the story of an MLA, Annasaheb Patil, and his family. Annasaheb considers Hanumantwadi his personal fiefdom as he has been ruling it for nearly three decades. His son, Balasaheb, a bully and a spoilt brat. Both father and son have obedient wives at home and mistresses outside. Annasaheb8217;s daughter Vasudha, returns home for a break. Then comes the news that their constituency is for a woman candidate. Annasaheb puts up Vasudha8217;s candidature. Vasudha wins.
The whole equation at home changes forever. The end is a forgone conclusion, with the errant Balasaheb being brought to book and Vasudha and her mother leaving home. Sachin Khedekar as Balasaheb is the leering womaniser and the nasty politician . Reema,as Chandrakala, Annasaheb8217;s mistress, Mohan Joshi as Annasaheb and Smita Talwalkar as Annasaheb8217;s wife, are convincing. Mrinal Kulkarni as Balasaheb8217;s wife, puts in a mature performance and Prashant Damle is a surprise package, sans his otherwise loud self.
Sonali as Vasudha is the disappointment. Kishore Kadam, the local crusader, Sameer Shinde is a let down. Harish Joshi8217;s cinematography is refreshing in pieces. Gharabaher appears to have been wrapped up in a hurry. Playing at Alaka, matinee In the family way After 25 years in the film business most heroes go for a make-over, so is it any surprise that a theatre shouldn8217;t?. Gunjan, the Yerawada-based theatre has a new look now. There8217;s also a matching change of outlook the management of the Talera group- owned theatre has decided to shift its focus on family entertainment henceforth, says a press release. And what better film than the family entertainer Hum Saath Saath Hain from the Barjatiya stable with which to start off its new run. 8220;The theatre was personally chosen by Sooraj Barjatiya after a pre-release visit. 8220;He advised some changes which the management implemented,8221; says Pramod Talera, director. A digital dolby music system, a new screen and renovated interiors are some of the makeovers.
Painting passion
When will triumphs over hardship, the end result is always worth watching. Two Indore-based artists, Kalpana and Sharad Shaligram hold their exhibitions at the Balgandharva Kaladalan from November 10 to 12. Kalpana lost the ability to hear from one ear in childhood, but continued with her passion for arts wherever she went with her husband Sharad, who was in the Army. She has an eye for landscapes and one particularly is very poignant 8211; a painting of Gopalpur-by-the-Sea, in Orissa. Sharad is particularly interested in historical portraits and has a number of sketches on Chhatrapati Shivaji to his credit. It is only after retirement that he has given full attention to his lifelong hobby. The exhibition will be inaugurated by Mayor Dattatray Gaikwad.
