Turning tables8230; unfaithfully
8220;You shouldn8217;t have been unfaithful,8221; says the hired killer, Tony Cyrus Broacha, when he comes to kill Maggie Perizaad Zorabian. That was Unfaithful, staged at Holiday Inn on Sunday. The black comedy set in New York, revolves around unfaithfulness, murder and intrigue, directed by adman Kunal Vijakar, who probably feels the subject is relevant to India 8230; read Mumbai.
And so here8217;s the saga of an unfaithful husband Jack Boman Irani conveniently blaming his 8220;genes8221; for his unfaithfulness. He pays Tony to kill his wife, who he believes has been unfaithful. However, the tables are turned when the killer and the victim get together to boot him out of the house.
The play questions the institution of marriage, obviously taking the side of the wronged wife, whose character unfortunately is rather ambiguous. She8217;s prepared to be as unfaithful as the husband, but believes in 8220;pure love8221; too! So, the lady tries to commit suicide. Enter Tony, a hoodlum-with-a-heart and after many violent altercations between the two, they enter into a deal to eliminate Jack. The second half gets pacy when Jack returns home to find his wife alive, who confronts him with the help of Tony. After much drama, Jack is ordered to leave.
Vijaykar does a decent job of adapting the play, without losing out on content. Irani and Broacha were excellent. But Zorabian, who is supposed to have worked on the New York stage, is a disappointment 8211; good expression but monotonous dialogue delivery.

The Rajasthani Food Festival at the Rang Mahal in Holiday Inn, owes its success to Vijay Singh Bedla and his wife, Sugan. What makes this food festival unique and interesting is that Sugan personally cooks not merely supervises all those exotic dishes. The Bedla family, who live in the lap of luxury back home in Udaipur, share the goodness of their original recipes handed down from Vijay Singh8217;s great-grandfather.
Since 1997, the Bedla couple have left many a food connoisseur asking for more. The five-star hotels where they lay out a delectable spread, day after day, have almost become their second home. States Vijay Singh, 8220;The Le Meridien in Delhi has been one of our most memorable visits. At the end of the 10-day stay, the hotel staff had tears.8221;
Vijay Singh reminisces how, during his childhood,8220;We used to have a tough competition at home amongst the males as to who would cook the best dish. My father, grandfather8230;everyone loved to cook. And I would be obsessed with coming out with the best dish.8221; His best days though came when Sugan entered his life and took over the kitchen completely. Vijay Singh states, 8220;She has a tremendous grasping power and the ability to improvise, in case some ingredient is not available. I8217;m not like that.8221; Thus, it is Sugan who is presently, not really having a cool holiday, but is busy in the kitchen. Unarguably, the food is lip-smacking.
The non-veg section was superb. The fried fish, the chicken curry as well as the one with thick gravy and the mutton were delightful. And so was the cauliflower vegetable, the potatoes in white coloured gravy and the paneer. Vijay Singh reveals that 8220;The entire cooking is done in curds, buttermilk and milk and onions using them in appropriate portions.8221; Delightful sweet dishes provide a finale and not to forget the paan.
