Flower PowerCOPA Cabana was the one club open throughout the bandh on Saturday night. This week, the pub held a special `Summer of Love' week. The music was strictly '70s and the dress code was dominated by flower power. On the first night, a cake was cut to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the `Summer of Love'. And to keep you in high spirits there was a waiter dressed up as a doctor injecting shots of tequila into everyone's mouth. The most appealing thing was that there were no teenyboppers. But as always, there has to be one person who tries to be the party queen . That person (no names or that would be telling) danced on the stairs, swung off the banister and drank beer from a huge jug but still no one batted an eyelid. The things people will do to get into the limelight! Looking outThis week, the Femina Look of the Year girls made the most of being the centre of attention. On Tuesday night, the 1900's had a party just for the girls and their members. They were on the dance floor from start to finish. But while the girls may have got there on time, the rest of Bombay decided to take it easy. The only models who made it on time were Lascelles Symmons, dressed outlandishly as usual, and Sabah Khaleli. Channel [V]'s Jules Fuller was punctual as always.Making an entrance, just before midnight, was Arun Nayyar with pal Jeh Wadia. After the witching hour, the club was packed and you could not help but bump into some celeb or another. Soon the girls were ignored as rubbing shoulders were Milind Soman, Marc Robinson, Lubna Adams and Aarti and Kailash Surendranath (with Riya Dev Verma following them around like a little lost pup). The contestants left by two am, as they had to go to Akbarally's in Chembur next morning where Chambor were letting them get their hands on as much war paint as they desired.Close shaveOn Friday night, Channel [V] hosted a bash at the Club Abyss to fete the winning couples of Close-Up Close Encounters. The 12 gorgeous guys and gals roamed and mingled with fluorescent badges on their hips, shoulders, and exogenous zones to indicate that they are the new pall-bearers of hipness. Among the many hot dekhos were Laila, Anupama Verma, Sushmita Mukherjee and Jules Fuller. Despite the cramped dance floor Channel [V] made a successful splash into the waters of Bandra's nightlife they will soon be shifting their offices there. Jules hopes that Bandra will become a beacon of Mumbai's youth, as they plans to commission armies to clean the streets around their offices and hopefully inspire other residents.Rain wearThis is a slow time of the year for most designers. But Tarun Tahiliani, who already has his hands full with two new stores opening in Delhi next month, launched a new collection at Ensemble yesterday. The collection is called Mukaish and includes pieces in nude net, chennile and pale jamevar prints. Star castZarine Khan, Sanjay Khan's wife, has bagged the prestigious Hotel Sea Princess (in Juhu) account. This isn't the first time she has tried her hand at hotel interiors. She has previously done work for a leading 5- star hotel. And finally. It seems Cosmopolitian may finally come to its senses. For months, this Indian edition has stuck to phirang cover girls. But the buzz is that it is now looking out for an Indian girl. Delhi has already sent 15 covers to New York Cosmopolitan's head office and they have been all rejected. We hear that more pics of potential cover girls are being sent. While our desi girls may not be good enough for some international mags (that have gone Indian), Vanity Fair has signed Supermodel Bipasha Basu for a forthcoming cover.
