Residents of the New Model Town area are reportedly having trouble due to the work in process for re-carpeting of roads in their area. The residents complained that the labourers engaged in the work were burning rubber tyres to melt the bitumen and the some emanating from this fire was causing breathing problems to them.
SK Dua and Kanwaljit Singh, office-bearers of the New Model Town Welfare Society, today opposed the burning rubber tyres. Besides, at some points, the layer of carpeting has started to break even though the work is still in progress, they added. The residents have demanded that re-carpeting should be of good quality and the workers engaged in the work should be told not to burn rubber tyres. They have threatened to oppose the work if the same problems persisted.
