PUNE, February 16: Four separate mishaps on killer stretches of various busy roads in Pune district claimed ten lives, including that of the family of a police constable, this morning.A ghastly mishap at Pisurti Phata, around 55 kms from here near the pilgrim centre of Jejuri, claimed the lives of Vishrambaug police constable Dilip Dadarao Shinde (42), his wife, son and nephew around 11 a.m.Constable Shinde, along with his family members, was going to their native place to start construction of their house when a State Transport bus collided head on with their auto rickshaw.Jejuri police said Dilip Shinde himself and his 30-year-old rickshaw driver nephew Suresh Pandurang Chaugule were killed on the spot while Shinde's teen aged son Ajay and second wife Rekha succumbed to the injuries while being rushed to the Sassoon hospital. The constable's seriously injured first wife Shalini has been admitted to the Sassoon Hospital, they added.According to the neighbours, the Shindes' had left theirShivajinagar residence in Suresh's rickshaw around 8 a.m. The autorickshaw was about 10 kms away from Jejuri when the State Transport bus, which was going to Paleghar from Waduj, collided head on with it.The bus driver had been held by the Jejuri police for interrogation. The work of filing a First Information Report in this connection was on till late in the evening.In an earlier incident, four labourers were killed and three were injured when their truck turned turtle at Kurkumdh village, about 69 kms from here on the Pune Solapur road (state highway number 9), around 4.15 a.m.The identities of three dead labourers were ascertained as Dhanaji Dnyanoba Ghodge (20), Prabhu Prahlad Ghodge and Sambhaji alias Santu Sadashiv Sutar (21) (all residents of Kave Rople village in Madha taluka of Solapur district. The identity of the fourth deceased could not be established till late in the evening.Two seriously injured labourers, Santu's father Sadashiv Rangnath Sutar (40) and Dashamabai Bhimrao Chavan(40) of Kamlapur village in Gulbarga district of Karnataka, have been admitted to the Sassoon hospital here. Truck driver Javedmiya Rasulsahab Diyavani (25) from Basavkalyan in Karnataka, who also suffered some injuries in the mishap, has been admitted to the government hospital at Daund. The driver of the truck loaded with iron plates had accepted the fares of the labourers at Mumbai while returning to Karnataka last night. Police said the injured and the deceased were trapped under the heavy iron plates loaded in the truck after the vehicle turned turtle.The reasons for the mishap could not be ascertained till late in the evening. In a separate mishap, an unidentified person was killed on the spot when a truck rammed into his motorbike at Ghunavadi village near Bhor on the Pune Solapur road this morning.In a yet another highway mishap involving two trucks, a truck cleaner Laxman Jadhav from Latur was killed on the spot. Police said Jadhav was aboard the truck when the other truck rammed into it nearBhor on the Mumbai-Bangalore highway.
