MC contractor on Monday started road metalling work on the main Ferozepur road in a cloudy weather and the work continued till 1p.m while it was raining. The road in front of Aarti theatre was being metalled, because of which even huge traffic jam was being witnessed as the traffic had been routed from the other road. Meanwhile, it needs to be mentioned that the total cost of this road metalling project is Rs 6 crores and the work is being executed by six contractors.Executive engineer H.S Salaria while talking to Newsline said, “The construction norms were adhered to and in case any discrepancy is noticed, corporation and the contractor will be held accountable. The work will be re-done.”However he said, “Two trucks of pre-mix had come from the plant and by that time the weather had turned bad. So we stopped asking for further material, however whatever pre-mix had come was to be laid and we followed all norms. I am sure there will be no problem on that road. Work goes on in hilly areas while it snows. So it was not an exceptional case.”However commuters were surprised as to why MC chose a cloudy day for this work. The work should have been cancelled for a day, but it was not done and it was stopped only when MC Commissioner G.S Ghuman asked the project report from the team. While talking to Newsline, Ghuman said, “The technical aspect can be known from the building and roadways department but I agree that work should not have been started today looking at the weather. Still the team told me that there was nothing to worry and I will re-check it tomorrow.”
