
The Raman Singh government has got cracking with the BJP8217;s pet theme 8212; cow slaughter. The Chief Minister announced a total ban on cow slaughter in the state after the first Cabinet meeting today.
Singh also set up a Cabinet sub-committee to oversee the implementation of the party manifesto which among other things promises distribution of cows to every adivasi family. On how the distribution would be initiated, Singh said: 8216;8216;Just wait for next year8217;s budget, everything will be known.8217;8217; He also announced reversal of the previous government8217;s decision to use red beacons on the official vehicles of ministers.
Home Minister Brij Mohan Aggarwal will head the four-member sub-committee comprising Finance Minister Amar Aggarwal, Minister for Scheduled Castes and Tribes Ram Vichar Netam and Parliamentary Affairs and Panchayats Minister Ajay Chandrakar.

The government has announced a financial package for small and marginal farmers to lessen the burden of unpaid loans. The state8217;s relief package of Rs 2,500 will be deposited directly in their accounts.
Unemployed youths from BPL families, who have passed the Plus Two examinations, will get a monthly allowance of Rs 500 from April 1, 2004.
Singh said pattas land deeds would be provided to tribal families that have encroached on forest land and were in possession of the plot before 1980.
