Newsom and Trump had been at each other's throats since mid 2025, following the US President’s deployment of the National Guard in Los Angeles. (Photo: X/@GovPressOffice) California Governor Gavin Newsom has taken a swipe at Donald Trump for accepting the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize medal from the winner María Corina Machado, who last week ‘gifted it’ to the US President.
In a post on X, Newsom’s Press Office announced that the Governor was awarding the California Peace Prize to Trump in honour of him completing one full year in office.
“In honor of lasting one full year in office, Gavin Newsom today awarded Donald Trump the California Peace Prize. Please join us in congratulating Daddy’s Little Helper,” the post said.
It also shared a photo in which Trump was depicted as a toddler, accepting a tiny trophy from Newsom.

The social media post mocking Trump came hours after Newsom launched a blistering attack on the US President and European nations at the World Economic Forum in Davos for failing to stand up and resist his bullying.
Newsom, who served as the Governor of California since 2019, has already made his intentions clear to seek the Democratic Party’s Presidential nomination in 2028.
Newsom continued his trolling of the US President on social media with another post. He shared an altered version of a post originally shared by Trump, showing a map depicting both Canada and Greenland as part of America.
Newsom’s post added a text to the map, reading ‘plan to distract from the Epstein files,’ a reference to the US Department of Justice’s delay in releasing all the documents related to the investigation into the convicted sex offender, who was once a close friend of Trump.

Newsom and Trump had been at each other’s throats since mid 2025, following the US President’s deployment of the National Guard in Los Angeles, California. Newsom, who called the move unlawful, successfully sued the Trump administration, which in December announced the withdrawal of the National Guard from Los Angeles and other Democratic cities.
