CHANDIGARH, June 21: All India Sports Authority of India Coaches Welfare Association would soon launch agitation in support of their demands, including removal of Executive Director A S V Prasad, whose 8220;vindictive attitude and snobbish behaviour has killed sports and the coaching profession.8221;

Addressing mediapersons here today, AISCWA president R S Randhawa said that the Exectutive Director, who is on one year8217;s extension, has allegedly been instrumental in depriving the coaches of their legitimate promotions and in declaring the coaching cadre as a dying cadre8217;. Randhawa disclosed for the last many years no coach had been appointed by the Sports Authority of India.

The associated demanded that the coaches should be allowed to play the leading role in development of sports. Randhawa said the coaches should be given a status of prestige by involving them in policy, planning and decision making process. He quoted the example of Sri Lanka where a 8220;a coach is a decision maker.8221;

The executive committee which met here today had directed all the coaches to assemble in New Delhi on June 29 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium to press the authorities to consider their legitimate demands.

8220;We are a demoralised lot by the step-motherly treatment being meted out to us by SAI officials,8221;said Surinder Dangi, secretary- general, adding that there were 2200 officials for 1600 coaches in the country.

Dangi demanded construction of multi-purpose stadia in the country for the maximum utilisation of sports infrastructure.

Advocating formulation of a transfer policy of the coaches, the AISCWA demanded technical scale of Rs. 6500- 10500 instead of Rs. 5500-10000 for grade III coaches and promotion of coaches working in Rs. 1640-2900 scale.

The association president said that 8220;during the Beijing Asian Games, the maximum number of foreign coaches were appointed and a lot of money was spent. However, the performance of the Indian sportspersons was dismal.8221;

He stressed the need for maintaining a continuity in training programme for achieving the desired results. P T Usha, Valsamma and Shiny Abrahim were the products of a continued training programme8217;.
