MUMBAI, MAR 17: The CBI case against Reliance Industries Limited and its CMD, Dhirubhai Ambani in the alleged back-dating of letters of credit for PTA imports in 1985 was today adjourned to June 18. This is the 19th adjournment in three years after the CBI filed two chargesheets in the case in January 1996. The FIR was filed in November 1985.The cases relate to alleged back-dating of LOCs by the accused for the import of purified terepthalic acid (PTA) worth Rs 180 cr to get around the cut off date when PTA was brought under limited permissible items from the OGL.Additional chief metropolitan magistrate, Usha Iyer today adjourned the matter till June 18. Though the CBI had moved an application praying that arguments be taken up today, no substantial arguments were heard. The court had a heavy board for the day.Most of the accused, including Dhirubhai Ambani, have filed discharge applications. Five foreign nationals are among the accused, mostly officers of the Societe General Banque and BanqueIndo-Suez. Officers of Indian banks are also among the accused.The accused are charged with, besides conspiracy, cheating and forgery of the LoCs under which imports were carried out.
