FAZILKA: Baljeet Singh, tehsildar posted at Ludhiana had to cool his heels for a night in the lock-up allegedly for not appearing in a criminal case in the court of Amarjot Kaur, senior sub judge, Fazilka. According to information available, the tehsildar appeared late in the court in connection with a case Govt. Vs. Basti Ram in which he was to witness that Baljeet Singh, then posted as naib tehsildar Jalalabad, in connivance with patwari Basti Ram and numberdar Surjeet Singh of Mohar Singhwala village changed a intkal. A F.I.R was lodged with Jalalabad police.

Lok adalats
MOGA: Justice R. L. Anand of Punjab and Haryana High Court said more than 65,000 cases have so far been settled against the total of 87,115 by 598 Lok Adalats held in Punjab so far and an amount of Rs 68 crore had been disbursed through these lok adalats since the implementation of this system. Justice Anand who is executive chairman of Free Legal Service Society was addressing a meeting at Faridkot yesterday where Justice H. S. Brar of Punjab and Haryana High Court earlier inaugurated the 8th permanent Lok Adalat. He said the entire state would be covered under the Lok Adalat system within the next two months.

Stir threatened n PATIALA:The All India Development Officer8217;s Association of United India Insurance Company Limited has strongly condemned the desicion of Union government to open up the insurance sector for private companies.In a statement here today, a spokesman of the association, Ravinder Singh Bhatti has threatened the government that if it fails to review and withdraw its decision in this regard soon, the development officers will launch an agitation to get their demand accepted.

PATIALA: The Inter-state Integration Theatre Campaign scheduled to commence from tomorrow covering Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pardesh has been postponed in view of the Khanna train tragedy, according to a press release issued here today by National Theatre Arts Society today.The fresh dates would be notified as soon as they are finalised, Pran Sabharwal, director NTAS and convenor of the campaign said.G.S. Kakkar, president and members of NTAS expressed grief and prayed for the peace of the departed souls.

PATIALA: The expert committee formed by the Sangeet Natak Academy, New Delhi has identified a play Dhol Sipahi,8217; written by Preet Mohinder Sekhon, who is working as an announcer with Patiala Radio Station for the Phase III of playwrights workshop in Punjabi, according to a letter sent to the writer by the secretary of the academy, Sharban Mukharjee. Talking to ENS Sekhon said the expert committee has gone through the script of the play during a workshop conducted at Patiala recently. He said that during the workshop two scenes were also enacted from each play.
