
Arrested
Amritsar: The Border Security Force (BSF) has arrested eight Bangladesh nationals near Rajatal border outpost, while they were attempting to cross over into Pakistan on Friday night. According to First Information Report registered at the Gharinda police station yesterday, the eight were taken into custody near the barbed wire fence. After crossing over into India from Bangladesh last month, they had made their way to Amritsar. The eight have been identified the eight as Bark Guldez, Balban Hussain, Likman Mutbal, Biwal Hussain, Nikampura, Alimian, Surmualab and Raj Kania. All of them have been lodged at the Central Jail here.

Ludhiana: The first Punjabi daily on the Internet, Punjab News, was launched today when Dr Sewa Singh Legha, Academic Consultant, Christian Medical College, logged on to view the first issue. Janmeja Singh Johl, honorary chairman of Punjab News, said the aim of the newspaper was to allow Punjabis, especially those settled overseas, to stay in touch with their state. Apart from keeping readers updated with current affairs, Punjab News will have special features on health, medicine and education from experts, Johl added.

Moga: Punjab State Consumer Grievances Redressal Forum president Justice A.L. Bahari is scheduled to visit Bathinda on December 14 to inaugurate newly-constructed building complex of Bathinda District Consumer Court. The complex has been constructed at a cost of Rs 7.50 lakh. Punjab Minister of State for Food and Supplies Chiranji Lal Garg will preside over the function. This was announced by Parkash Chand Singla president of the District Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum, here today.

Patiala: A noted lawyer of Patiala, Vijay Sehgal, died here after a BRIEF illness. Giving this information today, the secretary of District Bar Association, Vinay Vatrana said Vijay Sehgal was an ex-nominated member of disciplinary committee of Bar Council of India and had also remained the president of District Bar Association, Patiala, twice. He said that Bar Association suspended its work for a day.
Seminar
Patiala: The International Association of Lions Club and Punjabi University is organising a seminar on leadership in women tomorrow at Art Auditorium of Punjabi University here. According to district chairman Lion Gurnam Singh Mehra, IGP Training, New Delhi, Kiran Bedi will be the chief guest of the seminar and Mohini Giri will be the special guest and the key note speaker. Vice-Chancellor Dr Joginder Singh Puar will inagurate the function.
Symposium
Shimla: A two-day symposium of NGOs and funding agencies is COMMENCING here from tomorrow onwards. Disclosing this today, the spokesperson of Rural Development Department said as many as 110 representatives of active NGOs will participate in the discussion to ensure greater participation by NGOs in developmental works. Anna Hazare, prominent reformists and proponent of NGOs movement in Maharashtra, will address the participants on Tuesday.
