Congress president Sonia Gandhi today described both the BJP and the NC as opportunists and two sides of the same coin, saying both were surviving on each others support.

Addressing a 20,000-strong crowd — the biggest ever in the last over 15 years — at Parade Ground here, Sonia asked people to give a befitting reply to all those responsible for bringing Jammu and Kashmir to such destruction.

‘‘We cannot trust them,’’ she said. Slamming the BJP for its overall failure, Sonia said the NC is trying to distance itself from the BJP only to escape from its responsibility of good governance. The Congress president spoke for 15 minutes.

Even after Sonia had finished her speech, more and more people were seen rushing to the venue. Encouraged by the public response, she assured that, if voted to power, her party will sincerely try to solve their problems. ‘‘You will feel the difference between the NC-BJP rule and the Congress rule,’’ she told the crowd.
