MUMBAI, May 26: Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers Limited (RCF) , Central Railway (CR) moved into the semi-finals of the 2nd Police Cup Hockey tournament at the Police headquarters Ground, Naigaum here today.

RCF drubbed Central Bank 6-0 in the first quarter-final encounter S Megraj put RCF into the lead with a 28th minute strike. Two minutes later Hemant Dabak found the net to score RCF’s second goal before the breather.

Dabak scored his second and RCF’s third in the 39th minute off a pass by Megraj. Solomon Alexander (two goals) and Vinod Kumar completed the rout.

In contrasting style Central railway laboured to a 3-1 win over GM Police. CR took the lead in the 11th minute through a penalty corner struck by Subodh Khande. Amit Sen increased the margin for tha railwaymen in the 31st minute through a penalty shot. Jansher Khan made completed the tally for CR. Ganesh Patole reduced the margin for GM Police.

Manikala prevails

Janmali Manikala of Andheri YMCA pipped Tejasvi Rao 8-7 (10-8) inthe boys under-12 first-round of the inaugural Bombay YMCA Maharashtra State Ranking tennis tournament, today.

In another under-12 match, Aniket Ghaskadvi upset sixth seed Irshad Allana 8-3, while fourth-seeded Marlon Coelho struggled to beat Tufail Merchant 7-5 in the boys under-10 section.

Puthran nets brace

A brace by Prasad Puthran was the highlight of Chembur English’s 3-1 triumph over Central Railway Mumbai Division in the BDFA-conducted Air-India Trophy football tournament at the St Xavier’s ground, Parel, today.

Napolean Pereira was the other goal-getter for the winners. Sudip Roy reduced the margin. All the four goals came in the first-half itself.

Amit Dani best

Amit Dani emerged best in the fourth Khanderao Rangnekar Memorial single-wicket cricket tournament, organised by the Sporting Clubs’ Committee (Thane), at the Central Maidan.

In a closely contested semi-finals, Mandar Phadke beat Mandar Sane and Amit Dani defeated Amit Pagnis.

In the final, Amit Dani scored 30 runs with the help of two towering sixes. Mandar Phadke also hit a huge sixer but could manage to score only27 runs.

Chetan Tambade of Vijay Cricket Club, Thane, was adjudged best fielder.
