Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda
The Amruthahalli police in Bengaluru have lodged a First Information Report (FIR) after posters appeared at various public places in the city suggesting that Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda was “missing”.
The case was registered on Saturday in the wake of a complaint by an assistant engineer of the Byatarayanapura sub-division of the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom). The complainant said that unknown individuals had pasted the posters on roadside electricity transformers, resulting in damage to public property.
Following this, unidentified persons were booked for defacing public property under Section 3 of the Karnataka Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act, 1981.
Officers said the act violates Karnataka High Court orders that ban the defacement of public property, besides affecting the visual appearance of the city. Videos of the posters being put up were shared on social media, where they gained wide circulation.
The police said an investigation is in progress and efforts are on to identify those involved in putting up the posters and circulating the videos.
