February 15: Local Lad Ramkrishna Kashelkar and K Gunasekharan of Tamil Nadu shared the lead with 4.5 points each after five rounds of the Tanvi All-India International Open Rating Chess Tournament in progress at the Town Hall, Thane here.

While seventh seed Kashelkar forced Ninad Konakanchi to resign in 50 moves, Gunasekharan outwitted Mumbai’s Cyrus Irani.

However, it was Madhya Pradesh lad Ravi Kumar who created a flutter in the fifth round today by shocking FIDE Master Sajandas Joshi. With the victory, Ravi Kumar ended up sharing the second spot with three others all of whom have garnered four points each.

Ramkrishna Kashelkar (4.5) bt Ninad Konakanchi (4), Cyrus Irani lost to K Gunasekharan (4.5), Sajandas Joshi lost to Ravi Kumar (4), VKN Solanki lost to Amar Kamat (4), Harsha Bodade (3.5) drew with Prasad Deshmukh (3.5), D Ravishankar (4) bt Shyam Shetye (3), Vikramaditya Kamble (4) bt G Banerjee (3), Rahul Sangma (3.5) bt AN Iyer (2.5).
