PONDICHERRY, OCT 12: Top seed S Raman (PSCB) survived a scare before prevailing over Jignesh Jaiswal of Gujarat 21-14 13-21 21-11 15-21 21-12 to enter the men’s pre-quarter final in the National Insurance All-India ranking table tennis championship tonight.
In another exciting five-setter Nachiket Chawate of Maharastra outplayed Bona Thomas John of Tamil Nadu 21-19 16-21 21-17 16-21 21-19 while Prithiviraj Bose of West Bengal defeated Anirban Nandi 14-21 21-17 21-17 21-18.
Two former National champions meeting in a first round of the women’s singles is not an in-thing. Ambika Radhika, out of the game for sometime, met her match at the hands of Mantu Ghosh. Radhika was not short of support but the lay-off made that difference.
