
Lawyers stir continues
Ahmedabad: Lawyers of City Civil and Sessions Court Bhadra, Criminal Court Gheekanta and Ahmedabad District and Rural Court Mirzapur stayed away from court proceedings on Monday in protest against the alleged beating up of some lawyers by Gandhinagar police. Meanwhile, Ahmedabad Criminal Court Bar Association has decided to boycott the courts till April 23. The association has formed a committee to make a representation to the State Home Minister. It also appealed to its members not to appear in defence of former Gandhinagar DSP R S Yadav if any case comes up in the court.
Panel urged
People8217;s Union for Civil Liberties PUCL has urged Governor Sunder Singh Bhandari to impress upon the State government to institute a State-level Human Rights Commission at the earliest. In a meeting with Bhandari in Gandhinagar on Monday, PUCL team gave a representation which said a committee has already been appointed for instituting the commission but so far, very little is known about the proceedings. It urged the Governor to see to it that the meeting of the committee is convened immediately by the government.
RBI counter
The city unit of the Reserve Bank of India will open an extended mobile counter for exchange of torn, mutilated and soiled notes of Re 1, Rs 2 and Rs 5 denomination including those packed in polythene pouches and also for distribution of coins on April 20 in the Saraspur area near Bank of India Branch.
AEC meet
A customers8217; meet was arranged by The Ahmedabad Electricity Company Ltd at its city Zonal office on April 10. Chinubhai R Shah, managing director, heard the problems of 52 customers.
